rljohn56 Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 ok, i got inkscape downloaded in order to try and get into portrait scrolling......ummm, i didn't think i would need to take the next 3 months to learn how to work this software. all i want to do is take a pic of someone, something, download it, convert it to grayscale/black & white, & clean it up so that i can start cutting. am i missing something here? very frustrated at the moment. woodduck 1 Quote
joleet Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Ray.... I think you should download the free "Gimp" to do your portraits, Inkscape is used mainly to get smoother lines and some cleanup. There are several tutorials on this site on Gimp. Ron woodduck and woodknots 2 Quote
woodduck Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 I am also having trouble Ray when I import a pattern into inkscape I can't seem to lighten the black pattern to a grey etc. Quote
Dan Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 As Ron suggested, you should use Gimp or some other photo editing program for creating portraits. Travis' tutorials are excellent! If you watch both tutorials on Gimp and Inkscape you will understand what these programs can do. woodduck, woodknots and bobscroll 3 Quote

As mentioned, GIMP is what you'll want to use for portraits. You can find the tutorials here: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/articles.html/_/pattern-making/gimp/ I am also having trouble Ray when I import a pattern into inkscape I can't seem to lighten the black pattern to a grey etc. You'll have to convert it into a vector before you can change the colors. You can find that tutorial here: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/articles.html/_/pattern-making/inkscape/prepare-a-pattern-for-printing-using-inkscape-r22 woodduck 1 Quote

Travis Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 I've never tried it with a PDF. I know it works with a JPG. Can you save it as a JPG, then try it? Quote
