Lakelad Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Hey Travis I am trying to make a name plaque to attach to a trophy plaque I am making for our fantasy football league. I have managed to make the attached using Inkscape, but need to have something where I can just cut the name and date out of the plaque. In other words I need to be able to get rid of the base and reconfigure some letters so I won't have the islands. See I learned some terminology in the Gimp class. Am proceeding through the Inkscape class now and appreciate your effort. Thanks, Gary Quote
Lakelad Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 Travis, I have gotten rid of the base, how do you then do letters so you don't have the islands? Gary Quote
Dan Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Hi Gary. I'm still learning Inkscape so I thought I give you a few thoughts on how I would do it. What I've done in the past is create small rectangles to overlay on parts of the letters to remove the islands. I've attached something to see if that is what you are looking for. Basically, I broke apart the a, e, and 0's. I know there's a way to break apart and reconnect the segments, but I can't remember. I'm sure Travis will have an answer soon. Dan Quote
Lakelad Posted January 10, 2010 Author Report Posted January 10, 2010 Very helpful, thanks Dan. I knew I could try to free hand them while cutting, but really wanted something a little neater. Again thanks for the help. Gary Quote
Travis Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 I do it the same way Dan does. I create little rectangles to bridge the islands. So you type the name. Select the name and convert to a path (Path>Object To Path). Create your rectangle bridges. Select the bridge and word and do a Difference (Path>Difference) This will cut the bridge into the letters. Keep doing that until everything is bridged. For unusual shaped bridges, you may have to turn your rectangle bridge into a path and use your node editor to move around the nodes and add curves. An even easier way to do this is to download a Stencil Font from DaFont.com. Stencil fonts already have the bridges for you. There's also a few fonts that have been [urlhttp]motified for the scroll saw here. Quote
Lakelad Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 Thanks Travis, I'll give it a try. Dan's way works, I just drug the rectangles on to the letters. Gary Quote
