Trivet

I have a nice pattern for one. Just have a few questions for some who have cut them out already.

How thick was the wood used?

Any kind of stain or coating of any kind used?

I hope you got your answer, but if you didn't, I use 1/2" stock and finish with Butcher Block Oil.

I usually use 3/4" hardwoods but 1/2" is fine too. As for finish, I use a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. It's important not to use an oil that is not designed as a finish like lemon oil or orange oil as these types of oils never dry and can stain a nice table top.

Craig, I like to use either 3/8" or 1/2" stock for trivets. Personally, I think that a 1/4" stock is to thin, and I don't like the look of the 3/4" ones.

Mineral oil is your best bet. Will cost you about $1.25 a pint at the dollar store.

Most of the trivets I have made are 1/2"
