I'm a good one at this,I cut 100 birdhouses and predrilled the holes.well i took a trip to the big box store for perches and they didn't have the size i drilled the holes for.Live and learn the hard way.Measure twice drill once.I do the same thing on assembling new tools or what ever ,don't read the instructions ,that will slow me down.I'll just dig in look at the completed picture and go from there.not good.

What size  drill was you looking for?

I used one that was the same size as on the pattern.Ends up 3/16? is supposed to be 5/32" but i found on ling the other big box store carrys that size just a mile away

Use a slightly bigger dowel than the hole you drilled and taper the end by sanding a bit to fit in the hole like a wedge. Apply some glue and insert.

Yeah a quick hit on the sander will fix it! thanks !
