 I was playing around with inkscape, clicked on a circle and scrolled it into the  middle, and never showed  came up blank any sugestions.  edward

Check the stoke and fill in the bottom  left to make sure they are set to a colour

 

It maybe the preference got unset at some point.

Still not able to draw boxes or circles. stroke and fill at the bottom don't seem to work.  edward

Maybe post a screenshot?  Maybe we can see what's going on.

Go to View -

Click on Display Mode

Then click on Outline 

Now try your circle
