I have been trying to get a maple leaf into a pattern that I can cut as an out line.

See pic for the original

First, I duplicated and then did a dynamic offset on one and it is close but all the points got rounded/

Second I duplicated and scaled by 1/4 inch bigger.  aligned vertically and horizontally but the centre does scale.

Any ideas what else to try.

Thanks

Hi Don:

What you may want to try once you have your image inside the canvas

1- Click on the top arrow on the top right to make sure you your object is selected

you will see a lined box with arrows around it

2- Click on Path -

3- Click on object to path

4- Click on Path again

5- click on Trace bitmap

You should be close to what you want

Slide the top layer off of the original and delete the original

Move your new image inside the canvas

6- As an added step you can try the following

7 - Click on View, Display Mode then Outline

and see what you get

Please let me know if I'm close with this as to your request

Thanks

You may just want to try going to View-Display mode-Outline before trying anything else

Keep us posted please

Thanks again

I had tried what you suggested and my issue is that I can get one object when I trace the bit map with pointed leaves.

I can't get the second.

I am trying to come up with a Canadian vet ornament similar to Dirk Boelman's above

My attempt is attached along with his original PDF.  I just want to have the leaf with point inside and out.  If you get my idea.

thanks

Hi Don:

Sorry about that

I will have to play around a bit to see if I can get what you want

Hopefully, someone else will come in with an idea or solution

I'll post  again if I find a solution

Again sorry for wasting your time

Thanks for trying.  You gave me an idea about taking original jpg and resizing in Gimp and see if I could get 2 images.  For some reason it reduces the overall size but doesn't reduce the 2 lines in the middle..

That didn't work but I am still looking in to that.

Thanks again and if you have any thoughts please let me know.

Give this a try:

  1. Select your shape.
  2. Make your shape transparent with a black stroke.
  3. Set your stroke to a high number to get the general thickness you're looking for.
  4. Go to Path>Stroke To Path

That should get you in the ballpark.  You may need to fiddle around with the nodes to get it perfectly sharp, though.

Hi Don

If You select the image and go to Path

Click on outset see what you get

if you keep clicking on Outset it gets bigger

Like Travis mentioned you may have to fiddle with the nodes

to get your points

The image is light but you should be able to see it

Hey Don:

You're cheating,

You are not suppose to use my image

That was just a show and tell quickie

You have to make your own from the great tutorials above.........LOL

Just kidding, Don,

I hope you get what you're after

You will have to show us the final product

I'm curious now

Thanks for your patience

I am still playing around with this pattern.  I will probably go old school (pencil and ruler) to make the points on the leaves till I figure out more about how the nodes work.

I am off on holidays for a week with ALL the grandkids so I will pick this up when I get back and will cut a sample then and post.

This is for a project for my club.  It was the presidents idea that we should change to the maple leaf and now he wants to change the words.

We will see.

Thanks again for all you help.
