DWSUDEKUM Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 You saw a shirt for $97. You did not have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your Mom and $50 from your Dad. $50 + $50 - $100. You bought the shirt, and had $3 left over in change. You gave you Mom $1 and your Dad $1 and you kept $1 for yourself. now you owe your Mom $49 and your Dad $49, $49 + $49 = $98 + Your $1 = $99 Now the interesting question ... where is the missing dollar? Bill WIlson Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 The thing that comes immediately to my mind is that you paid waaay too much for that shirt. Be_O_Be, dgman and GrampaJim 3 Quote

Debi Shipman Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 Since you re-borrowed a dollar and didn't pay it back the first time it becomes a 2 in the equation. So 49, 49, and 2 is 100. Or...I haven't got a stinkin' clue... but it sounds good lol Quote
Dan Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 Check your shirt pocket. I love these puzzles. WayneMahler 1 Quote
RangerJay Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 H'mmm - think the underlying principle is off ..... been my experience that once Mom and Dad are tapped for money NONE OF IT ever makes it way back ..... meaning - their son (or daughter) has a new shirt AND $3 more dollars to spend ..... JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 This is a good one. I have to pass this on. I hope you do not mind. The feeble mind of mine has no idea. Quote
kywoodmaster Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 First thing is that the equation is wrong. The shirt cost 97.00 If Mom and Dad split the cost of the shirt equally they would each have contributed 48.50 to the purchase. If 1.00 is returned to each the equation would be 48.50+48.50+1.00+1.00+1.00=100.00 Be_O_Be 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 A better way to say is they both get $1.50 back and you get nothing. Then you repay them 48.50 Quote
