wombatie Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 G'day everyone. So you have all been busy standing in lines waiting to vote, or you were sneaky and voted early, don't blame you. I've been thinking, over here voting day is always a Saturday in England it was always a Thursday, I assume it still is and over in America it's Tuesdays. Do you have polling stations in schools or halls? Today we had a sunny but cool 16C. Springs been a bit of a fizzer, which may mean that we are going to get one very hot summer. Been busy in the garage doing some finishing and some cutting, hope the pattern I've been working on works out well, it's a bit complicated, but I walked away from it for today. Stay safe everyone. meflick Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 Good morning Marg and everyone. It's presently 8:15 am here in East TN. Suppose to be colder today then it has been, but colder doesn't mean really cold or snow! Mid 50's I think. Good news/bad news is we got a cold front that brought in a little bit of rain and some winds. Rain not enough to make dent in serious drought in area, but may have helped with several wild fires that are burning that were leaving a heavy haze in the valley area. But concern is the winds may fan the flames on fires still burning. Hope you get to enjoy some Spring weather and don't jump right into summer. Hope you don't have the scorching hot summer like we did. As far as polling stations for voting Marg, I think it varies across the country as to where/what buildings are used. For early voting in my area, we had 3 locations one was at the court house at the election commission's offices, the public library, and an old gym turned into a county building for various functions including a senior citizen's Bldg, and a place for after school sports for children. Other counties do other types of locations. For Election Day it's self, many do use local schools and schools are usually closed in our area but that is not true for all areas of the country that use school locations. Besides schools, we do use othe government buildings and such. For example, my official polling location is in my small city's "town hall" building. Like record numbers in our country, I did vote early. Much easier that way to get your vote in. Hope your project works out for you. Good to walk away as you need. Look forward to seeing photos when you are done. LarryEA 1 Quote
GrampaJim Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) Hmm.... Why do we vote in November? Probably it is as far away from April 15th (Tax day), as the politicians could make it? Edited November 9, 2016 by GrampaJim amazingkevin 1 Quote

wombatie Posted November 10, 2016 Author Report Posted November 10, 2016 We get elections any time of the year generally every 4 years but sometimes a little earlier. However we have State and Federal elections so we get to vote 2 years running and get 2 years off. In every country there are good and bad politicians but if you don't vote you can't complain, we have no choice it is compulsory to vote here and you get fined if your don't. Marg Quote

I hope people educate themselves before voting. I agree, if you don't vote - you shouldn't complain. We have elections like you all at various times. Between local county, towns, and city elections for a variety of positions, to State senate, house, and Governor, then the federal ones, seems like we have elections a lot sometimes! wombatie 1 Quote
ike Posted November 10, 2016 Report Posted November 10, 2016 My wife and I both worked at the polls. I got too much for her 3 years ago and me the next year. It was an experience the pay was not too bad and not too good either. she is 75 and I 77 we just got too old for it. The last year I was with 3 grade school teachers At the end of the day I felt like I was back in the 3rd grade. a bad experience IKE. wombatie 1 Quote
