oldhudson Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 The only was I use is Johnson Past Wax. https://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Fine-Wood-Paste-00203/dp/B0000DIWIM The link is from Amazon but you can find it almost anywhere. Next to bratwurst and beer it's the best thing to come out of Wisconsin. woodknots and Jim Finn 2 Quote

oldhudson Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 Those are cool!! "Old Hudson" huh... Anything to do with the road? Our family had a '49. It was the first car I was really 'aware' of. It had a huge straight six and could really haul. Quote
Ron Johnson Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 Beautiful boxes Jeff and fantastic finish. I always apply a final coat to my finished products with a cabinet makers wax (sold by LV). I also sometimes use a liquid bees wax. Waxes are applied with cheesecloth, rubbed in gently with 6000 grit paper and finally wiped again with cheesecloth leaving a beautiful silky finish. woodknots 1 Quote
Lucky2 Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 Beautiful boxes Jeff, from what I can see in the pictures do they really need waxing? I like the finish you already have, but, you think it needs wax so the only wax I use on something like these, is Johnson's paste wax. I did get a beautiful finish on a jewelery box one time, I used Meguiar's Gold Class liquid car wax. After applying the wax and letting it dry for a while, I then buffed it. I was impressed with the finish, it looked and felt like glass. The only reason I used the car wax, was that I had no other wax and I needed to get the box finished. Len woodknots 1 Quote

woodknots Posted November 16, 2016 Author Report Posted November 16, 2016 Thanks everyone for the compliments and the advice. Quote
rjR Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) The compliments are EXTREMELY well deserved! The advice is excellent as I have used the Johnson's and The Car wax too! The wax has to dry well before buffing though! The boxes you made are FANTASTIC! Edited November 24, 2016 by rjR Quote
