Gonzo Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Just saw an ad on CL for Cutechtools. Planers and jointers. Anyone here in the village know anything about them? Quote
dgman Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 I just did a Google search and found there website. I have never heard of them. They look like cheap Chinese tools to me. Quote
Dan Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Here's something I found, for what it's worth. http://www.woodworkingtalk.com/f12/cutech-40200h-ct-thickness-planer-review-128265/#/topics/128265?page=1&_k=t70uha Woodworkers Journal also did a write-up. Quote
tomsteve Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 yup, got me the 6" jointer about 14 months ago. the owner of cutech had something to do with the old steel city tools. anyways, its a good little jointer. now, its a 6" benchtop jointer, so expecting it to work like a 6" Powermatic or jet- that will lead to disappointment. Ive jointed/flattened RS oak, maple, poplar, walnut, and pine with it and quite a bit of BF. leaves a nice finish and flat, too. its the exact same jointer as the rikon 20-600H that sells for quite a bit more Quote
tonylumps Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 I bought a Cutech Jointer When they first showed up with the Segmented cutting blades. i was a little leary about the little cutting surface. But the first piece of lumber I ran through it made me a convert No strain on the motor and a beautiful cut..Now as far as a surface Planer I have the 15 amp.WEN that has 3 cutters on it and it runs like a bear .Once you learn how to avoid Snipe it does a real nice job for the money.I have a Tormek wet sharpener that I sharpen the planner blades on it.I also sharpen My carbide turning tools. But I have not tried the Cutech Jointer blades yet Quote

Gonzo Posted February 7, 2017 Author Report Posted February 7, 2017 Thank you all for your input. Dan, thanks for the link, interesting reading. I did see the write up in Woodworkers Journal. Tonylumps and Tomsteve, nothing better than hearing from someone who has the equipment. Thanks. Quote
tomsteve Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 gonzo, idk iffen theyre still doing it, but when I got mine I got a free set of inserts, too. I think I had to call after receiving the jointer. one thing id encourage ya to do it have a stand/table about waist high to put it on and clamp/bolt it down.when I 1st got mine I just set it on my table saw, but that wasn't comfortable work height. light cuts, too. it doesn't like deep cuts.
