Found a Parrot pattern on a Stain Glass Site.  Cut it with 1/4"BB.  Was Different for sure cutting each part out.

Kept all pieces inside the margin shape.  So the pic shows the pattern partially still on, but at least now

non of the lil pieces can go very far.  Like putting together a Jig Saw Puzzle.  Gots a lil fun at that point.

So using the lil Dremble with the sander attached I proceeded to Sand Shape the Edges.  Was not good

at first, but got easier after a bunch of pieces.  Yes had 2 lil pieces go flipping out of my hands.  Finally

did find it on the floor.  LOL  Did give each lil piece a sanding with 220 grit.  Yea!

So now I think I could be ready for some color.  Has anyone did this This Way Before?  Want to use color

paints to match the color chart that was supplied with the pattern.  Thought about diluting the paint with

water to obtain something like a Stain.  Want the grain to show thru.

Any Help would be Greatly Appreciated..............Thanks in Advance.......Love this Forum............Danny  :+}

I do similar to these all the time.  What I do though differently is i cut out the black like to use as a thin frame.  Instead of just having the pieces but up against each other.  It takes a bit of doing but its really just cutting each piece close to the line, then cut the frame out last.

Paint the frame black and you just paint the pieces and put them back in and glus to a backer.  here is an example.

Thanks. So look at coloring books of the like.  Thats what I started with.  You will notice, even in your parrot piece, that thin black outline.  Keep that in there.  You will need some super small bits, I use #72 bits and 2/0 jewelers blades for all my work.  The blades leave a mess of fuzz on the back sides but thats no big issue as i am going to glue it to a backer so no one will see it.

To cut the pieces out, of course you will want to hide the hole so drill it right in the border of the black outline.  Thats why you need the small bits.  You cut the piece out and what I do is set it aside and write the color on the back.  I use a little coding system for my colors.  - is black, x is white, like that.  You will have to keep track of all the pieces too as it will look like a smile with s missing tooth if you dont.  Its tough to make the missing piece again if you lose one too.

Once i have everything cut out I tape them to some card stock, i use painters tape folded over so I can just place the pieces onto it.  i will use one sheet per color.  I mostly use spray cans.  i will start by painting all the pieces white as sort if a base coat  some of course stay white,  i just paint the black pieces black.

After i have them all painted white the next day after its dried i will paint the colored pieces the colors indicated on the sheets.

Once its all done, i assemble it by placing all the pieces back onto the backer.  Of course there will always be that one piece that was supposed to be green that i painted yellow but thats ok, easy enough to fix.

Once everything is good, i put a board on top so i can flip it over and I spread wood glue to the backer and put them together.  press under something weighted for a day and thats it.

Here is an example of what it will look like.

Most important mark as soon as possible the back side or it will never go back together.

If your going with the normal cut and sand method then there are a few things you need to do. Mark the back of each piece, it makes it easier later on. I'll usually mark them with an arrow pointing up so I know which way they go, sometimes I'll number them. Gluing up can also be an issue, you have to remember the kerf, even a small blade is going to make a difference over a large piece with lots of cuts. Don't make a backer until you have glued it up or you will find it is a bit wider than what you wanted, unless you want a wider backing board. I'll sometimes go with that and use a washer to get an even border around the edge, especially when there are lots of tricky to trace parts. As for staining, watered down paint will work. Just don't water it down too much. Wood stain is great but the colours are limited.

- Make an extra copy of your pattern and number the pieces on that pattern.  Then as you cut out each piece put the number on the back of each piece.

- Add (glue) shims to the back of pieces to give it extra thickness if you want to have raised portions.

- When you go to assemble glue the pieces to a backer board, preferably black or a dark color with just a dab of glue .  Do not attempt glue each piece together.

NC SCROLLER....  That is a bit of advice I did not know.  I probably would have applied the glue to the matching pieces.  Neat.

Saves a lot of work DTR..   Boy I am so Happy I am a Part of this site.,.................Danny  :+}
