Sparkey Posted May 7, 2017 Report Posted May 7, 2017 Nice boat. Do you race them. I used to belong to a club in CA years ago and used to race. Quote
oldhudson Posted May 7, 2017 Report Posted May 7, 2017 Pretty cool. Carbon fiber is tthe stuff they make F-1 bodies out of. Don't you need a zillion dollars worth of equipment to build with it? Quote

Ken O Posted May 8, 2017 Author Report Posted May 8, 2017 Sparkey, yes I race them. I built the original hull out of birch plywood and ran it for the 2015 season. Then built the molds and made the first carbon hull and ran it for the 2016 season. Got all the setup bugs figured out and then started selling them. This green one will be raced in a stock engine class. But the hull also fits a bunch of the 1/6 scale boats paint schemes. Mine is a scale boat (same hull) but painted as the 1959 Maverick. Kevin, here is the motor, 29.5cc water cooled 2 stroke, with a stroker crank, ported & polished cylinder and lightened piston. Turns 18,000 rpm at 6.5-7hp. 125 CSL and bobscroll 2 Quote
bobscroll Posted May 8, 2017 Report Posted May 8, 2017 Really COOL work your doing on them boats Ken! Thank you for all the photo's, Bob Quote
Sparkey Posted May 9, 2017 Report Posted May 9, 2017 That should run pretty good with that engine. I used to run B mono with a plywood v hull I built. I was running a 2hp engine. It would run around 35mph. Quote
Ken O Posted May 9, 2017 Author Report Posted May 9, 2017 Sparkey, I had the GPS on it the other day and it showed 62 mph. that's the only time I've known for sure what the speed was. It has more under the hood but I think 65ish is about max for heat racing speeds. I went to a race this weekend and they got some good shots of it. I won in my class. bobscroll 1 Quote
