jerry1939 Posted June 27, 2017 Report Posted June 27, 2017 I purchased a Sue Mey Memorial Cross pattern. Scanned it and imported into Inkscape. Want to trace it, so that when I need it, I can use Inkscape to add the Name & Dates. Started a very little on it yesterday and it worked fine. Tried again today and the Bezier tool is acting funny. See bottom left of the photo. Played a little with the PATHS tab and cannot find what I want. Tried a different scan with the same results. Any ideas as to what I messed up? Thanks in advance. jerry Quote
hotshot Posted June 27, 2017 Report Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Jerry, If my inadvertently change something that changes the behavior of my apps, my strategy for this type of thing is to revert the application back to the default preferences. In the case of Inkscape, that appears to be the preferences.xml file. The location for that file can vary depending on OS, but you should be able to sure your system, and find that file which should be in a folder related to Inkscape. If you are feeling brave, you can delete this file, then when you restart, that file will be re-created with the original defaults. If that makes you nervous, you can rename the file incase you want to go back to it. If you go another route, let us know what you find out. Good luck ----Randy Edited June 27, 2017 by hotshot Quote
jollyred Posted June 28, 2017 Report Posted June 28, 2017 Looking at the nodes for the curves, they seem to be set to "symmetrical". Try changing them to "corner" and try again. How you set this characteristic of the nodes can change how the react when manipulating the lines. Quote
don in brooklin on Posted June 28, 2017 Report Posted June 28, 2017 I am not sure what the issue is but I have modified other Sue Mey Patterns as with Inkscape you can just open the PDF. It come in as an image that you have to trace like a bit map and then modify the path from there. It may be another way of looking at the pattern instead of scanning. Don Quote
jerry1939 Posted June 28, 2017 Author Report Posted June 28, 2017 A BIG THANK YOU ALL !! Yesterday our cable went out for the TV & desktop computer while I was using inkscape. I think that irritated the computer. When we were back online, inscape was doing weird things. JOLLYRED started me on the correct path. It had set itself to "symmetrical." Got that cured, but last night when I closed a shape. got a screen that said "internal error and will turn off inkscape immediately. Today, after changing the NODES shape, the %&@+* works just fine. Happened just before the computer was just about to go through the office window. Thanks again Guys. You are awesome for coming to the aid of the down & out. jerry Quote
jollyred Posted June 29, 2017 Report Posted June 29, 2017 I have had Inkscape (and other drawing programs) do weird things while drawing, so I have gotten into the habit of saving every 10 minutes or so. It only takes a second and can prevent a lot of lost work. As I like to say " save early, save often". Tom Quote
