First stage of the VW camper from the 1960s. Work in Progress... Childhood memories. The family (father, mother, five children) used to go to church in this vehicle. But usually we had to walk home, because Dad insisted on chauffeuring little ole' ladies back to theirs.

Pattern by Fred and Julie Byrnes. Found it on Woodarchivers for free but not legally so. Through the kind people in the Scrollsaw Village, I got the website and contacted them. Julie Byrnes kindly sent me the pattern.

Sanding will happen another day.

this is tops ,I've had 5 micro vans and 1 bug ,but sold the bug right away for profit.Very good job can't wait to see it finished take your time .i came back from key west over a 100 miles as my steering broke and left me with a full steering wheel of free play.good thing the wind helped me so i could keep tension into the wind and made it no close calls.i love V.W. vans and had every style they made one at a time.

My son in law would flip his lid if he saw this, his family also had a VW Camper when he was a kid.  You are doing a fabulous job waiting on the edge of my seat to see the finished piece.

Hello Bea,

Ive just added the VW Camper with the free pattern to my projects page.

Your Camper photo looks great, especially like your use of natural woods :-) unfortunately there isn't a great choice of woods here in the uk! If any of your fellow Camper enthusiast would like to send their photos I'd be happy to include them on the site, it would be great to see the variations!

All the best

Julie
