Hi Phill and welcome to the Village.  I like your Skiff.  Looks like some pretty small pieces there.  How many pieces are there and what woods did you use?  I admire those of you who make your own patterns.  Do you only work from your own patterns or do you also buy patterns and use those?  I started on the saw a little over a year ago and Intarsia was my primary interest, thanks to the guys and gals here in the village I have ventured off into some other areas with the saw as well.  Thanks for sharing.

Hello all, new to this forum and thought I kick of by inviting your comments on a recent piece I completed.

It is an Orkney Skiff made using one of my own patterns based on a photo that I took at last year's Westray Regatta.

Hope you like it.

Regards

Phill

Thanks Meflick,

There are some fairly small pieces but I mitigated this slightly by making the overall pattern 24cm x 56cm. It only has 40 pieces so isn't too complex. As for woods, I must confess to fairly extensive use of dyes/stains. The sails are pine (it was all I had to hand that was vaguely white and long enough!) and everything else is Sapele.

I do work from commercial patterns as well as my own and am working on a Kathy Wise Clydesdale and Pony pattern at the moment, but I prefer to make my own patterns if I can. I sell most of the patterns and the pieces online.

Very nice piece.  I had a quick Google and Westray looks like a beautiful place to live.  Hope to see more of your work soon,

Rob

Rob,

Thank you. We moved to Westray around 14 years ago when I took early retirement from engineering, and love it here. It can be a bit wet and windy (a lot actually) in winter, and is a tad isolated for many tastes but with that comes serious peace and quiet.
