Oldmansbike Posted August 11, 2017 Report Posted August 11, 2017 Here is a picture of the first floor of the defender clock I started last month. Making it out of walnut. I made one about 10 years ago out of red oak. My nephew liked it so much I gave it to him. I just work on it an hour an hour there so it might take me a while to finish it. bobscroll, jollyred, Lucky2 and 3 others 6 Quote

meflick Posted August 16, 2017 Report Posted August 16, 2017 Beautiful work and look forward to seeing the final project. To have done one in red oak and now doing another in walnut. I am amazed at your skill and patience to do not just the first, but then another. Neither of those woods are easy to cut either. All those holes to drill - whew - not sure I will every attempt anything like that even though your clock is great and definitely a family heirloom! See, I would have to do at least two since I have two kiddos - I would never get one done I think much less two! Quote
Oldmansbike Posted August 16, 2017 Author Report Posted August 16, 2017 It's not as hard as you think just takes a lot of time. I work on it an hour here and an hour there I couldn't do it all day long. I have the second floor all cut out and I'm glueing it together now. Will post a picture when I have it on the first floor. Oldmansbike Posted September 13, 2017 Author Report Posted September 13, 2017 Here is a picture of it with the 3rd floor done. Had a little trouble with the roof. Didn't cut something right on the sides. It will be mostly hidden when it's done. All that's left is the bell tower and put in the clock works after I put the finish on. I have the bell tower cut out just need to glue it together and glue it on the third floor. New Guy and don watson 2 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 13, 2017 Report Posted September 13, 2017 That looks like a lot of work! Coming along very nicely. How do you put finish on some that big and intricate? Quote
Oldmansbike Posted September 13, 2017 Author Report Posted September 13, 2017 Spray it on with rattle can. My biggest problem with that is trying to put it on all at once. Then I get runs. I am not going to do that this time. Quote
Bpardue Posted September 14, 2017 Report Posted September 14, 2017 very nice work- I bought this pattern awhile back along with a couple of other Wildwood Designed clocks. Planning on make 1 for each of my Kids. Quote
Oldmansbike Posted September 14, 2017 Author Report Posted September 14, 2017 Here's the finished product. 982 holes drilled, 24 number 2 blades and about 2 months worth of labor. The clock movement doesn't seem to work. I've had it laying around for 15 years maybe it's bad. don watson and bobscroll 2 Quote
Oldmansbike Posted September 14, 2017 Author Report Posted September 14, 2017 Forgot to add I left the top piece off this clock. I think it looks better without it. Quote
Scrappile Posted September 14, 2017 Report Posted September 14, 2017 Beautiful clock. You did an awesome job. Quote
