What is the best glue to adhere photo paper to Baltic Birch plywood.

I tried the 3M "77" product and wasn't happy with the bond.

Then I tried TightBond 2 wood glue. Better but no cigar.

Any recommendations?

I started with 3M photo mount, then nobody nearby was selling it so I tried every spray glue hobby lobby has and ended up sticking (no pun intended) with 3M 45 and 3M 77. I've had no trouble with either. I use them to glue the paper to the wood for cutting out patterns, and for gluing glossy photos to the top of the puzzle box.

Funny you would ask that.I've  had problems like this and figured if i sand the material to be glued the chance of it coming undone is nill.

The problem I had with 3M - 77 is this:

Upon gluing the paper to the plywood I then sprayed a triple thick gloss material by Krylon over the surface. Put it in the sun to dry. 30 minutes later  I checked and all the edges curled up. Maybe the sun was the problem.

Maybe that top-layer played a role too. The only Krylon I know is spray paint, Does it say it's paper-safe? I don't usually put a finish over mine, although I've sprayed lacquer a few times out of laziness (already glued the label to the box, didn't want to mask around it.)

There are a few things in the  art store that are made for spraying over finished paintings, they are sprays but I forget what they are called and I've never tried them.

Joe_M,

I've used the Krylon triple thick stuff before on photo and regular paper without any problem. Gives a good protective coating. It is a clear coating and not paint.

Try using the wood glue you are using brush it on the wood stick the photo on job done use it all the time no fancy nancy named glue products here basic glues recommended are pva based my way of thinking same as white wood glue I used that it worked and it was in my shop anyway works for me so I will stick to it . I got lucky in a bin one day and found a marble type material rolling pin I use that to bond the photo to the wood a few roll overs with that job done a normal wooden one will work as well I guess.

Brian, please excuse me for stating this, but I don't think you used the 3-M77 properly. If you had, I doubt that you would have had any issues with it. Personally, I think that you didn't use enough, or that you applied it improperly. Did you apply the glue to both surfaces, and did you allow the glue to dry before placing the picture on the surface? Did you use a small roller, to press the photo into place? Why would you place the item in the sun to dry, were you in a hurry? It is best to allow these spray type of finishes, to dry at their own pace. Forcing them to dry with heat, can cause the edges to curl. In the past I've had similar issues, when I changed the way I used the glue I had better luck. Another type of glue you could use, is contact cement. I've always had good results when I used it, as long as I spread it evenly and allowed it to set up.

I've used Alean's Tacky Glue for gluing photo paper to BB plywood with good success. It dries clear and is permanent.

It's amusing that you bring up that name. When I was 16, and that was a very long time ago, my buddy and I did lawns for spending money. Aleene, lived in Arcadia, Ca. and had a very big home/yard. We did here lawns once a week for $30 a month. And we split that. We worked our butts off back in the day. And she was not a nice person to work for. She had her store in  my hometown of Temple City, Ca. Just a bit of trivia.

In MS Word, I made a sign that I put on my pieces.  Regular printer paper.  I lay it face down on wax paper. spread rows of Elmers school glue on it and level with a credit card.  No problems.  Not shown on the photo is that I take a hole puncher and snip out a 1/4 circle on each corner.

The straight lines shown are for the scissors.

I also use white glue like this to attach these images that I print out on my ink jet printer.  I then apply wipe on Poly over the whole box, many coats, and a final spray coat. Not on plywood though  Cedar.59f5bfafcba47_Decopageonboxes.thumb.jpg.3be7ce84ba95e38d90c5b89128d9e795.jpg
