Popular Post Jim Finn Posted March 10, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted March 10, 2018 I have made over fifty trunks like this over the years. Sold them all. Made of 1/2" cedar with 1" raised panels all around. Trunk measures 24" long 12" wide and 16" deep. Finished some with lacquer and some with polyurethane. Unfinished inside. I made some wooden hinges on some but most I used two brass plated "butt hinges" (like you would use to hang a door) surface mounted to the back side. Horizontal pieces are connected to vertical pieces with glue and 1/4" dowels. After learning to do inlay I made one employing that process. Three piece top on this one. RabidAlien Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 AWESOME!!! Can't help but think that round-top needs black-iron bands and one of those old-school, chunky, iron locks on the front. Pirate chest!!! Jim Finn 1 Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) I started out making trunks, like this, using pine and other woods. After accumulating lots of scraps left over from making these trunks I experimented with making small boxes and eventually started to put inlaid images in the hinged lids. I am still experimenting with things to make of wood. Edited April 20, 2018 by Jim Finn RabidAlien and Lucky2 2 Quote
