sst17 Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Hi I am new to Inkscape. Never even heard of it until last week. I have been working my way through the videos that Travis made. In the meantime I am trying to create a word art piece. The corners of the fort are slightly rounded on the tops. Is there a way I can simply make the corners sharp instead of rounded. I have been messing around with the nodes but can't get a sharp corner. I hope this question makes sense and someone can help me. I am ready to pull my hair out. P.S. I have some Auto Cad experience, high school 18 years ago, and remember being able to extend lines and trim them. Is there something like that I am overlooking. Quote
jerry1939 Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Not sure I understand "corners of the fort". If you are referring to the frame around the words, the easiest way is to use the rectangle tool to create your border. Go to: File - Document properties & set to Landscape & Inches. IF those are the "rounded corners, Select the rectangle & Select Nodes. 1 node will not be on the corner. Move it to a corner. That moves all 4 corners equally. Select the rectangle, on the top is a padlock symbol. Click it if it needs to be unlocked. With the rectangle selected, on the top enter Height & Width in inches. If this isn't the problem you are having, feel free to holler and I or someone else will be happy to help. KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS AS NEEDED !!! jerry Quote
sst17 Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Posted March 10, 2018 Sorry fort was a typo. It should say font. For instance I am spelling the word Erin. The upper right corner is rounded on my upper case E. I would like the corner to be sharp and squared. Can I do that somehow? Thanks! Quote
Dan Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 (edited) I'm not sure either. If you meant to say "font" then here's my suggestion. Convert the letter to an path (select the letter, click Path menu and select Object to Path). Then if you double click the letter you should be able to see your nodes. In the rounded portion you want to flatten, if there is a node in the center select it and hit delete. Then select the segment and click the "make segment a line" icon as shown below. sst17 Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Posted March 10, 2018 Thanks Dan! That didn't totally solve my problem but I learned something new and it helped me. Quote
JustLarry Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 You might need to select another font that has the sharp corners. Larry Falcon 1 Quote
Fab4 Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 Hi Michael: Have to agree with Larry on this one Why fool around with a font when there are tons to choose from It is good to know how to do what you are asking but if it's strictly for fonts then choose another font Dan, Jerry thanks for your replies - I'm sure someone will need that info Fab4 Quote
jollyred Posted March 14, 2018 Report Posted March 14, 2018 One way to square the corners is to select a node at the corner and change it from a "rounded" node to a "sharp" node, using the node tools. To get a really sharp corner, you will probably need to delete some of the nodes along the adjacent portion of the letter. Have to agree with Larry, though. It is a lot easier to pick another font than to play around with reshaping letters. A good place to look is the site Dafont. Quote
