Slick Willy Posted March 25, 2018 Report Posted March 25, 2018 I have a Ryobi Detail Sander, model DS1200, the one with the triangle head, and for the life of me...I can't get the sanding pads to stay stuck on the head. I've tried different pads, as in Diablo and Ryobi, but nothing seems to work. This is extremely frustrating. I watched a video where a guy used a hot glue gun to keep his pads on, but I was wondering if any of you have had this problem and what you did to resolve it? Quote
dgman Posted March 25, 2018 Report Posted March 25, 2018 Yes I have had that problem. What did I do to resolve the problem, I tossed the the sander in the trash because it was worthless! try double stick tape. That might work. Quote
new2woodwrk Posted March 25, 2018 Report Posted March 25, 2018 I don't have that problem since I don't have a detail sander, but I do make my own sanding discs - I use double sided tape to adhere the sand paper to the disc - works really well Quote
Slick Willy Posted March 26, 2018 Author Report Posted March 26, 2018 Thanks guys. I'll give that a try. I don't have much sanding since I started using Ultra Reverse blades, but there are still times that the wood might have some imperfections or I just want a smoother look. Quote
Rolf Posted March 27, 2018 Report Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) I am assuming that you are talking about the sandpaper being held by the hook and loop pad. If that is the case the hook and loop fails over time for a variety of reasons but heat kills the hooks. Also they can load up with crap. The only solution is to replace the pad. I have a Fein multimaster that I have the opposite problem of getting the sand paper off. I buy rolls of hook and loop sandpaper from Klingspore, I use it on my Sand Flee, but I also cut my own sanding pads for the detail sander.https://www.woodworkingshop.com/product/kr66280/ This video may be useful about midway through he talks about the rubber pad coming off and getting dusty and not sticking back on. You can replace it or try double sided carpet tape. Edited March 27, 2018 by Rolf Quote
