lew Posted March 26, 2018 Report Posted March 26, 2018 I did this a few weeks ago and made some nasty mistakes. Had to glue a small bridge, but I must have laid the grain wrong because it showed up horribly when stained.....may just paint it instead.... But I like to keep my early works for comparison! spirithorse Posted March 26, 2018 Report Posted March 26, 2018 Hi, Lew, Looks fine to me and that's the grain orientation I would have used. Perhaps you could have sanded the surface before cutting the project. Also, even with good quality Baltic birch, one side usually has a better surface with a smoother surface. Check your work piece before applying the pattern and try to use the best surface to avoid pronounced grain or any oval patches in the wood. It still doesn't hurt to sand the surface before applying the pattern or using a wood sealer or conditioner before staining. Thanks for sharing your work with us and God Bless! Spirithorse Quote
woodduck Posted March 26, 2018 Report Posted March 26, 2018 Same thing happened to me Lew & that is why I painted the Blue Eagle one that I posted recently, I just could not get the repair to blend in. Quote
wombatie Posted March 26, 2018 Report Posted March 26, 2018 Looks ok to me but only you can see it properly. I hate to glue something that broke off it never looks right afterwards so I usually toss them in the fire bucket. Just my quirk. Well done. Marg Quote
Rockytime Posted March 27, 2018 Report Posted March 27, 2018 Great pattern and cutting. I think the finish lends kind of a mood to it. Quote

justdraftn Posted March 27, 2018 Report Posted March 27, 2018 Wabi sabi --Wabi sabi is a Japanese way of appreciating the beauty of impermanence and imperfection. “Wabi-sabi…nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.” Recognizing that we live in a world where perfection is impossible, wabi sabi is a way to engage the world as we find it. ------------------------------------- I still don't see it. I see an amazing piece of art. Wabi sabi. Quote
