I'm no artist. Heck, Steve Good's stick men are better than I can do. Years ago when I wanted to create a pattern there were very few resources with info in pattern making. I went the old school route of pencil and paper.

Today, it seems like a lot more folks are requesting patterns. I don't know if it's because their pencil broke, but I think a lot of folks want a pattern fast but don't know how to create something using software. I tip my hat to those learning the software (Gimp, Inkscape, etc.). I try to help with the software when I can.

For other, I'm just wondering why you request patterns? Maybe there's something our Village can do to make it easier to create, well, more pattern creators.

Sorry for the long post.

I have not requested any patterns to be made yet, but I can easily relate as to why requests are made.

I've tried to make a pattern, it didn't resemble the original in any way, shape of form LOL. And it took over an hour of my life that I will never get back LOL.

Now, interestingly enough I've been in the computer industry for over 35 years. However, that does not translate into being able to be artistic with programs at all.

In fact, my specialty was business systems specifically because I have zero artistic ability.  Otherwise, I would have gotten into graphic arts before there was CAD or into movie special effects.

So, for those of us with little to no artistic ability when we can't find what we're looking for elsewhere requesting is our only option.

Thanks Jes. The first few patterns I make were portraits of my kids. They were pretty bad. I studied the photos and made adjustments and after many hours finally got a good cut. Don't give up. And don't always rely on the software. If you know or learn the software that helps a lot but is not necessary.
