Vin Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 Is it ok to use these patterns to make items to Selling? Thanks, Vinnie Quote
dgman Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 As long as you do not sell or give away the pattern, you should be able to anything you want with the projects. Jim Finn 1 Quote
tgiro Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Usually depends on who made the pattern. Judy Gale Roberts told me that I could do what I wished with the projects I made from the patterns and could make as many as I wanted for sale or otherwise - as long as I didn't sell the pattern as my own. In some of the magazines, I have seen some projects with the terms "For personal use only", so I'm assuming that artist does not want you to sell your project. Some magazines will only allow you to make X-number of copies of the pattern, so there is a limitation there. I'm not sure of the terms under which you can use the "free" patterns on this site. If the site sets any limits or if the artist is required to specify limits. If I do make and sell a project from a pattern, I always give credit to the artist that made the pattern. worbler Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Absolutely. If you buy a pattern or get one for nothing you should be able to do what ever you want with the end result. As long as you keep the pattern out of it and only use it for yourself. As for 'Personal Use Only' I would think that means not to use it in a club situation, or make copies and share it around. And making X number of copies, how would anyone know how many copies you make. I would also think that all of the patterns on this site would be usable for saleable projects, as long as you don't sell the pattern itself. Quote
Travis Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 It is a general understanding that you can make and sell the project made by a pattern available on SSV. But you can't distribute the pattern itself (for sale or for free on other websites/forums). It's a nice courtesy to reach out to the pattern maker and ask if it's OK, though. The ones listed as "For Personal Use Only," usually mean's they don't want any money being made off the design. If it's listed as such, please respect that. But, you can always reach out to the pattern maker and ask. Quote
