Scrappile Posted August 3, 2018 Report Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) 37 years ago this month, my Father passed away. He was only 66. I still miss him and think about him daily. He was not famous, he was not rich, he was not a total genius (although he was very intelligent and talented), He was a 'jack of all trades", and what he was is far more important than all of those things, he was a great Father. He taught me love for hard work, love for FAMILY, love for the out doors, hunting camping and fishing, love for building, fixing, and my love for wood working. He worked us hard as kids, he played hard with us as kids. He taught us discipline, respect and love of country. He taught me there were consequences of my actions... He whipped my butt when I deserved it and I love him for it. He taught me independence. He taught me honesty, respect and compassion. He taught me love for animals, growing things and working the dirt. He was a great Father. He taught me to love sliced fresh tomatoes, right out of the garden, with some Mayonnaise on top..... just ate some for dinner. Try it you will love it. At his funeral, one of his long time friends that spoke mentioned this very thing. I give thanks daily, for the Father and Mother I had. RangerJay Posted August 3, 2018 Report Posted August 3, 2018 A touching remembrance. My own father's culinary contribution to my life was slightly different than tomatoes and mayonnaise - whenever he was in charge of lunch it was a sardine and onion sandwich - I still enjoy them a couple times a month - always think of him when I do - but have to say they are not a lunch choice my wife ever really warmed up to ....... bandaideman Posted August 3, 2018 Report Posted August 3, 2018 Thanks for your Tribute to your Dad. My dad is like that and I do speak with him daily and always cherish his wisdom and advice which I ask for daily. You cause me to cherish the ability to talk with him daily and still drive to visit him not as often as I would like but 2-3 times a year. He is 96 now and able to care for himself and still does what he can around the house and complains because he can't do all he used to do but he is a great resource to explain how. Quote
