jblock9907 Posted November 6, 2018 Report Posted November 6, 2018 I don't know about all of you, but this is directed to us more mature individuals. This past weekend I was at Home Depot and Walmart. This is where it gets a little confusing. When I was growing up, wasn't there a major holiday between Halloween and Christmas? After walking through those stores, I became a little confused. Does any else remember a holiday between those two? Quote
bandaideman Posted November 6, 2018 Report Posted November 6, 2018 I don't know about the holiday but I know in November we sure sold a lot of Turkeys in Nov. Worked on a Turkey farm way back then and usually had 90 to 100 thousand a year. Farm was started with 100 Turkeys from egg to slaughter house in the 40s. amazingkevin 1 Quote
jollyred Posted November 6, 2018 Report Posted November 6, 2018 Thanksgiving has not been commercialized as much as Halloween or Christmas, so no incentive to try to over sell it. amazingkevin 1 Quote
WayneMahler Posted November 6, 2018 Report Posted November 6, 2018 Thanksgiving comes to mind. Seems people have forgotten a lot of history . Don't mean this harmfully but seems to be an overlooked celebration. amazingkevin 1 Quote
meflick Posted November 6, 2018 Report Posted November 6, 2018 Well, i still celebrate that holiday with my friends and family. We call it Thanksgiving. Eat way too much food. That Christmas stuff was starting to peak through at some stores even before Halloween was over. amazingkevin 1 Quote

Exactly right. Everyone I know still celebrates Thanksgiving, but there isn't much the stores (besides grocery stores) can do with it, so it doesn't get the commercial hype. Frankly, I think that is almost a blessing, in and of itself. We can celebrate and focus on the meaning of the holiday, without all the other cultural and commercial excesses. Thanksgiving is regarded more as a carb-loading prep-session for Black Friday, which is nothing more than pre-Christmas overspending glut. Worked in retail...seen the worst in humanity brought out by holidays. Don't care for em anymore other than as days off to spend with my saw. My wife doesn't get why I feel this way, of course. amazingkevin 1 Quote
amazingkevin Posted November 7, 2018 Report Posted November 7, 2018 I never thought about it till you brought it up.I did window paintings 10+ years and got not many jobs for Thanksgiving came in. RabidAlien 1 Quote
