Devin Wilson Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 I use Paypal and have the small card reader that doesn't take chip cards. Has anyone ran into a problem with it lately wondering if I need to upgrade to a reader that takes chips. It's been about 8 months since doing any shows and wondering if some cards aren't working in the swipe only readers. Thanks in advance Quote
trailfndr Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 I would highly recommend that you upgrade. The chip readers are much more secure, and can help protect you from fraudulent charges. I would hate to have a big sale, and have an expensive item sell to someone using a cloned card. From what I have been told, that can't happen with the chip reader. The Chip reader protects you, AND your customers. Mort Tenon 1 Quote
Dee Posted November 10, 2018 Report Posted November 10, 2018 I use the same reader. After not using it for about a year, it gave a bit of trouble with 1 card, however, it depends on the strength of the signal used. I do not have a smartphone, so I use a tablet and wifi. Works great most of the time. Quote
orangeman Posted November 10, 2018 Report Posted November 10, 2018 Most folks using a cloned card will use it for only a couple days at grocery stores, gas stations, electronic stores, Home Depot etc and NOT at craft fairs. That said, a chip reader is more secure and I use one with payPal. bb Quote
