ike Posted December 10, 2018 Report Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) I have a bottle of ULTRA DYE for wood-and fiber. I want to dye some of my projects I tried it on a pine ornament and I had it sanded smooth and It raised the grain. When I buy more dye I will buy powder dye and mix it myself would it work well with denatured alcohol or mineral sprites.? IKE. Edited December 11, 2018 by ike Quote
Wilson142 Posted December 10, 2018 Report Posted December 10, 2018 I've had good results using Keda Dye. It's an aniline dye powder and can be mixed with water or alcohol. They recommend 80% alcohol/20% water for the dye to dissolve properly. I love the vibrant colors and the way you can mix, match and dilute to obtain any color and hue imaginable. Also, because it's a dye, the grain of the wood shows through. I like to sand lightly, apply a small amount of water to raise the grain and then sand again before applying. The more alcohol the less raised grain and I sometimes use a coffee filter or a brown paper bag to burnish any nubs if they are apparent. Scrappile, tomsteve, danny and 2 others 5 Quote
