I was wondering if anyone here works on an IPad to make there patterns. If so what apps do you use?

I seen where some use gimp but that is for a computer, I’m looking for something to work with an IPad

thanks for your input

Hi Jim, I don't but there are a lot of apps and programs you can use for the iPad.  I know Steve Good has noted on his blog that he uses the iPad and Apple pencil to create a lot of his work. Since you just joined the forum, I am not sure if you have found Steve Good's blog and patterns yet - on the off chance you are not familiar, I will post a link to his site: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com

This link will take you to the search I did on his site for posts mentioning iPad - it should give you some of his posts that relate to using to create patterns:

Hi AkJim,

When I bought my wife  and iPad 2 years past I also loaded a copy of 'Procreate' on it. This is an app for creating art. I also bought the Procreate extra add on features, I can't remember how much they were. I also bought a book 'MAKE GREAT ART ON YOUR iPAD by Alison Jardine. I got this in our local bookstore (The Works, reduced from £14.99 to £5.00).

Other apps for drawing/painting are :-

ArtRage, ArtStudio and Tayasui Sketches Pro.

I have not tried any of these last 3 apps as the 'Procreate' does what I want.

Hope this helps.

I bought an iPad a little over a week ago. I've tried making patterns with Inkscape and Gimp but I couldn't seem to figure out how to make regular patterns. I've used Gimp for portraits with a lot of success due to online videos. I've also used Gimp to change patterns without cut lines from black and white and grey and white.

I've been a Windows guy since 1990, so there was a learning curve with the iPad which is still ongoing. I bought the drawing software app, Procreate and I'm learning as I go. I've made a couple of simple patterns so far, but I have to say it's been a game changer. I never had any luck with layers, but this has made drawing stuff or tracing pictures simple. There's a feature that lets you draw perfectly straight lines and one that smooths out shaky lines. I don't have a drop of artistic drawing ability, but I'm learning.
