Scrappile Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 (edited) I ran across the drill press and not knowing a lot about the inner workings of them, I am wondering if anyone knows how hard this would be to repair? I mean is if cost a couple hundred for parts.. would it be worth fixing.. I think the motor alone is worth the $25. https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/tls/d/gresham-delta-drill-press-for-parts-only/6928027194.html Edited July 7, 2019 by Scrappile Quote
dgman Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 I suppose the first step is to find out if parts are available. Quote
Scrappile Posted July 7, 2019 Author Report Posted July 7, 2019 Ya, I've been looking, but don't really know what I am looking for "clamshell gear" don't even know what that is, but could not find one anyway. And you know Delta, famous for not having parts... Could not find anything on ebay either... If it was a different brand, than Delta, I be something would be available.. Quote
GrampaJim Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 It looks like the pulley for the belt drive is cracked - at least to my eyes. Maybe just needs a hardware store replace?? Might be worth looking at in person. Quote
Fab4 Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 Hi Paul Couldn't that be replaced with a pulley made of hardwood Just a silly thought, but I think that would work Fab4 Quote
Scrappile Posted July 7, 2019 Author Report Posted July 7, 2019 Just from looking at the picture, and the use of the term "Clamshell" I suspect the pulley opens and closes on the belt to adjust the speed or something like that. It is not just a straight forward belt pulley. Or maybe is slides up and down a shaft to move the belt to different speed levels on another pulley. I can't go look at it it is 230 miles away. But if I had the parts spotted and could get them, I'd have my son-in-law pick it up. More curious than anything else. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
dgman Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 The posting is gone now. Probably sold it. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I found the part and emailed the seller with the link, did not expect to hear back from him. I heard back within an hour! What I found was the part he needed, but he sold the DP yesterday. He was okay with it, he had already bought another drill press. I really don't think he looked very hard for the part, I found it pretty quickly. I also read on a wood worker forum that those DPs were trouble, that pulley is under a lot of stress and only made of aluminum. Seem to be a common problem and probably why Delta quit supporting it.... OCtoolguy 1 Quote
