OCtoolguy Posted October 3, 2019 Report Posted October 3, 2019 I want to make this picture into a scrollable pattern. I found the original on Pinterest and I have no idea who created the original intarsia. There was no information on it. But, I thought it would be a great pattern to learn on. If anybody can give me some help, I'd surely appreciate it. Thanks to all. The b/w image is after resizing it and the color is the original. I'd like to work with the b/w image as it's a bit larger. jollyred Posted October 4, 2019 Report Posted October 4, 2019 I just tried to do a trace bitmap on it, and that doesn't work. The only way I know to do it would be to trace the outline in Inkscape, using the bezier tool. Draw straight lines around the shapes, putting the nodes at the beginning and ending of curves. Then use the node tool to "bend" the lines to fit the curves. It can take some time, and a bit of practice to see the points where the curves start and end. Also where they reverse direction. On a gray scale image, I usually use a red line to draw the outline, which makes it easier for me to see. Attached is a couple of examples, using your photo. The straight line parts show the placement of the straight lines, and the curved shapes show the finished shapes. If you want, I can send you an example of some of these on your photo for you to look at. Just let me know. Tom inkpad demo.pdf OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted October 4, 2019 Author Report Posted October 4, 2019 Thanks Tom, I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I'm still not great at Inkscape but I guess this will be my chance to "bone" up on it. I might also try it in RapidResizer. There is a great little tutorial on there about making/creating your own patterns and it seems a lot easier than Inkscape. But, with that said, I DO want to learn Inkscape and become good at using it. I appreciate your help. Quote
Matt B Posted October 7, 2019 Report Posted October 7, 2019 This looks like a Kathy Wise style plan. I just checked her website, but it is not very complete. Perhaps, you could email her and ask if this pattern is hers. That would be the easiest way to get a good pattern. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I just went to that site and it works great. I was even able to enlarge it and change to a red line drawing. What a great site. Thanks. Quote
