Scrappile Posted October 20, 2019 Report Posted October 20, 2019 I have always heard the the Hawk G4 model was one of the best. I do not know, never had a Hawk but this one looks like new. Some one in the Roscoe, Illinois area might like to check it out. Note that is say it is model G426 and has "G4" on it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hawk-G-4-Precision-Scroll-Saw-Model-G426-Slightly-used-condition-/273980037075 Then I see this one in Boise, Idaho, says it is a Model G426, but I don't see "G4" on it like the one above. Still might be a good buy, but I don't understand the difference... https://boise.craigslist.org/tls/d/boise-rbi-scroll-saw/7003324575.html jbrowning 1 Quote
JimErn Posted October 21, 2019 Report Posted October 21, 2019 Not knowing anything about those saws either, the one in Boise appears to have a dust collection scoop over where the data plate would be G4 - model? 26 - 26 inch throat depth? Maybe Quote
kmmcrafts Posted October 21, 2019 Report Posted October 21, 2019 Both nice looking saws.. Yes the G426 is a 26" saw.. There isn't much difference between the two other than they changed the logo in one of the years.. don't remember which year now.. They are basically the same as the new BM-26 like I bought last year.. The G4 is just a short version of saying G426 I think they also had a G420.. ( 20 inch saw ) .. The BM series they made some improvements on the lower arm.. where the motor shaft connects is different and they also put in a newly designed motor for the BM series.. but overall they are very much the same saw.. short of the mower arm and the better motor.. The biggest change and why they say the G4 type saws are so much better is the option to top feed and the variable blade aggression adjustment.. The newer motor on my BM-26 acts as if it has a governor in it.. as in.. If I push into the blade hard with a hardwood it works to maintain the RPM or SPM.. you cannot bog the motor down.. it'll speed up a bit and maintain the speed better than the older saws.. Anyway.. I don't know much about electric motors but this motor on the BM series saw is powerful the way it works like that.. never ran another saw that had a motor like this.. The dust collector deal on the one saw isn't a factory thing... but I assume you all kinda figured that.. Some of the old Ultra saws had a hole in the lower base of the saw right below the blade where you could insert a vac hose.. My vac has the larger 2" ? hose and the hole in the saw would be for the 1- 1/4 hose.. so I've never tried it.. all the dust falls right where that hole is so I assume it'd work pretty decent with a vac on it.. Scrappile Posted October 21, 2019 Author Report Posted October 21, 2019 You just made that Boise one look like a great deal.... That is only about a 6 hour drive one way..... Nice drive, too, but do I really need another saw,,,,,,,? Nah. It is was real close, I would get real serious about it. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted October 22, 2019 Report Posted October 22, 2019 I agree.. I have a friend that will drive 3-4 hour drive for a deal like this.. then a week later a better deal pops up a mile up the same street he lives on LOL.. factoring in gas and wear on the car, meals, and your time after a long road trip those so called bargain deals are't such a great deal after all.. Key is patients to wait it out for a deal close by.. Quote
