Popular Post OzarkSawdust Posted November 6, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 6, 2019 Finished up my first trivet this morning. Didn't have any 1/2" Oak wide enough...so I used 1" Oak. Finished with butcher block oil. I used #5 Pegas and just chugged on through. I think it'll be 1/2" from now on...lol It's a Steve Good pattern with all initials and plain also. I think I'll have to make several more, in 1/2" this time, for the kids before we go up there for Thanksgiving. frankorona, RabidAlien, lawson56 and 8 others 11 Quote
Ron Johnson Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 The trivet looks great Gary. Cutting through 1” Oak can be hard on blades. Well done. OzarkSawdust 1 Quote
Foxfold Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 That looks good. I could no more cut 1" wood than fly to the moon. Well Done. OzarkSawdust 1 Quote
dgman Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Looks great Gary! I usually make my Trivets from 3/4” material. OzarkSawdust 1 Quote

I think I went through 4 or 5 blades. Didn't have to worry about blow out like when cutting Baltic Birch ply...LOL How many blades would you use doing a cut like that from 1" nominal? It wasn't really 3/4 either, more like 7/8 or so...came from Lowe's. I've got a piece of Maple, Oak, and mahogany coming from Ocooch, should be here by Friday. Trying to find a source of good wood at good prices. Quote
wombatie Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 That is a lovely trivet, you did a great job. I have cut 1" Oak before and boy was it slow. Marg OzarkSawdust 1 Quote
OzarkSawdust Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) Thanks Marg! Yes it is slow, and blade eating too. I went from the trivet to a trumpet I'm doing for a cousin (he just sent me a copy of his new release CD) done in 1/4" BB Ply. It was like going from a riding lawn mower to a race car! I have to be extra careful that I don't go too fast and cut what I don't want to! Edited November 7, 2019 by OzarkSawdust amazingkevin 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Very well done. Cutting 1" oak must not be easy. OzarkSawdust 1 Quote

Denny Knappen Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Looks great, Gary. I did the same pattern some time ago and used 1/2" stock. OzarkSawdust 1 Quote
