planeur Posted November 17, 2019 Report Posted November 17, 2019 (edited) What do you think of that idea , I had when reading a post concerning a marquetry a friend did ! I had used that method myself ! I could heat with hot sand ( as we do in marquetry and as on the photo ) some part of a piece, + adding ( or not ) some riser to get more 3D effet with my intarsia. Is my idea is already used , I would not be surprised ! planeur Edited November 17, 2019 by planeur Quote

tgiro Posted November 21, 2019 Report Posted November 21, 2019 The thing about marquetry is that they are usually dealing with thin pieces of wood - sometimes as thin as veneers. I have a friend who does that. He said the hard part was learning how long to keep the wood in the hot sand to get the shade he wanted. Intarsia uses thick pieces of wood - anything from 1/8th" up to 1-1/2" thick. I'm curious about how hot you would have to get the sand and then practice until you knew how long to hold a piece in the sand for shading. It's an interesting concept and I've not heard anyone else using it for intarsia. If you do explore this method, and it works well, be sure to get ready to teach the rest of us how to do it. planeur 1 Quote
