Popular Post Scrappile Posted December 23, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted December 23, 2019 My wife had invited our nephew and his wife out for dinner last Friday evening. They do a lot for us. They came and we were just finishing dinner and my Nephew's phone rang. He said he had to take it. Went out on the deck. A minute later the front door opened and our son walks in with my Nephew. He had called my Nephew to let him know he was close so the Nephew go out to open the gate to let him in. The nephew and his wife knew he was coming. First time we have been able to see him since November 2018. He flew home when I had a stroke then. So great to see him. He hitched a ride on FedEx plane to Spokane about 140 miles away, rented a car and drove over. Not a long stay, has to go back Tuesday, but it is so great. Been having a real good time. meflick Posted December 24, 2019 Report Posted December 24, 2019 (edited) Happy to hear that you have a nephew and his wife that live close and are kind and generous with their time. Better still that your son was able to come and visit you and your wife for a brief trip during this holiday season, I know you have enjoyed the time with him. Scrappile Posted December 24, 2019 Author Report Posted December 24, 2019 My Nephew and his wife are great to us and we are so lucky to have them close by. Every year my nephew has given me a calendar to hang up that has pictures of antique tractors. This year marks the 20th year he has done it. They take care of us, our kids owe them big time since our two kids have never lived close to us since they left high school and went off to college. I guess we raised out kids to be too independent... My wife and were born, raised and still live in the same area,,, our kids broke free and has lived in many different places. My daughter and her family now live only 230 miles away. That is the closest either has lived to us. We must have been horrible parents... OCtoolguy 1 Quote

No, Paul - it means that you were good parents who gave their children the knowledge and strength to be independent. Lots of reasons they might not have come "home" - but I am positive it has nothing to do with you being horrible parents - or your son would not have gone out of his way to get in this surprise visit. I am sure they miss being close to you. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Actually, they gave up trying to keep up with us. We moved to Colorado for 6 years. Came back to So Cal. Then 16 years later we sold everything and went full-time RVing for 3 years. So now we are settled and hoping the kids come to us when they can. Quote
Rockytime Posted December 26, 2019 Report Posted December 26, 2019 When we left ND in 1969 we did not leave a forwarding address and also stole the recipe for ice cubes! Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted December 29, 2019 Report Posted December 29, 2019 It's these kinds of stories that you need to read to folks that believe there is NO Santa! Great story. Russ Quote
Jim McDonald Posted December 29, 2019 Report Posted December 29, 2019 You're not a bad parent, they did what we all did--go where the work is. When we got married, one set of parents was 200 miles away, the others were close to 1,000. Take heart that they are working and safe. Quote
