Tomanydogs Posted February 5, 2020 Report Posted February 5, 2020 Hi my cousin and his family are coming to Canada in August from The Netherlands. They will be renting a motor home to travel through Alberta/B.C then down to the States. I have attached a map of the route they are thinking of taking in the States. My questions are; (regarding the States) Do campgrounds fill up quickly? Should they be booking sites now? Is there a website that they can book online? Looking at the route they want to take, are there must see things that they should not miss seeing? Thanks for any information you guys/gals can help me with. Irene RabidAlien 1 Quote
MTCowpoke22 Posted February 5, 2020 Report Posted February 5, 2020 Looking at their route, one thing they really should take in is Glacier National Park. Either way they come, they aren't too far away from it, and the "Going to the Sun Road" hands down has better scenery than anything you'll see in Yellowstone. It'll be open in August. They can start on the west side, head down to Great Falls, and still make it to Yellowstone from there. I've heard that camp sites do fill up fast, but can't help you with a website. Might want to check out KOA and see what comes up. Also, make sure they get some huckleberry ice cream! Quote
jerry1939 Posted February 5, 2020 Report Posted February 5, 2020 Yes, campground parking spots are limited. Would suggest Googling "RV Parks in _______ City" and contacting them. The sooner the better. Also check with Truck Stops and we see RVs in our WalMart parking lot. (Always go in and ask if it's permissible). Don't know if those people spend the night there. Even if the nearest campground is full, they could also pay to fill water tank & dump waste. One city we lived in had a City Park for RV parking. They had another spot by the waste treatment plant with water & waste. Both free. jerry Quote
ChelCass Posted February 5, 2020 Report Posted February 5, 2020 Your cousin can request (via internet) a travel map/book for which ever states they will be traveling. This will give them a better idea of what they want to see. Campgrounds depend on time of year and location. You will also get a lot of info on them in the travel books. You can also search on the internet the state they are going to be in. Such as Washington campgrounds and a lot of different sites will pop up and most if not all have webpages you can go to. Happy Journey to your cousins. Quote
Scrappile Posted February 5, 2020 Report Posted February 5, 2020 I would strongly suggest making advance reservations. Places like Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, may already be reserved for this year... Wow they are passing within 80 miles of me... Quote
