ben2008 Posted March 6, 2020 Report Posted March 6, 2020 Looking for some advice for my Foredom lathe. I have a small desktop Foredom lathe with an arbor on each side. I would like to add a small chuck to the right side. What kind of adaptor do I need to purchase for this lathe so I can attach a small chuck? I want to be able to use various sanding accessories for my intarsia projects. Foredom does sell a drill chuck for over 50 dollars that will fit the Foredom lathe. I think that price is ridiculous. Thanks in advance Ben amazingkevin 1 Quote
jollyred Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 What your will need is called a motor arbor. You will need the diameter of the motor shafts, and order an arbor to fit. The threaded end of the arbor will need to be sized to fit the drill chuck you want to use. It will be similar to this one. https://www.amazon.com/Flanged-Arbor-Shafts-Shafts-Grinder-Polishing/dp/B074G4LGZ2/ref=sr_1_33?keywords=threaded+motor+arbor&qid=1583547952&sr=8-33 If you have some metal working skills, and a drill press, it would be possible to make one fairly easily. Tom Hi Tom I did a little more snooping and I believe I found what I need on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/i/222806063786?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=222806063786&targetid=886822083781&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9016789&poi=&campaignid=9343999104&mkgroupid=96003384673&rlsatarget=pla-886822083781&abcId=1139336&merchantid=8137994&gclid=Cj0KCQiAqY3zBRDQARIsAJeCVxNM7mH_eE2K9hAok_69SACovrSh6r3qKCjJcGiS1lh-qTsxNltvyTsaAoj6EALw_wcB You steered me in the right direction. tgiro Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 You need a chuck that fits a 5/16' shaft and you set with a lock screw. I found these -- https://whttps://www.amazon.com/OSJS-Chuck-Adapter-Motors-Shafts/dp/B07J1VL167 www.fdjtool.com/dc1205-chuck-adapter-for-bench-motors-with-5-16-sh.html I noticed that most of the chucks fall in the $40 - $50 range, so something cheaper than that may be suspicious. That collett chuck, that you found will be good for Dremel type accessories, but not much else. Quote

They are probably a better option for my needs. Thanks a lot for the links and taking the time to look. Ben Quote
