Puzzleguy Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 (edited) I'm a former woodshop teacher , and feel we should review safety rules - not trying to necessarily give you a lesson - but keeping you away from the emergency room is a goal i have in mind - thou this is not complete, one word of advice which rings true is : If you don't feel confident in running any machine or your having a bad day - dont do it , just walk away and watch some TV , read your Bible , etc. Sometimes you need to remove yourself from things to be well . a couple of days ago I had things on my mind and not the work i was trying to do on the table saw -told my wife this is not a good day - so I walked away from it . In todays world one of my personal main goals is to stay away from the emergency room or the doctors office - Keep safe ! Please add your own thoughts -I want us as a Community to help each other and stay healthy ! Edited April 8, 2020 by Puzzleguy danny, jollyred, RabidAlien and 3 others 4 2 Quote
spirithorse Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Well spoken! I know it is hard to walk away from a project that you want finished right away but, have learned from experience that the workmanship suffers if you are having one of those bad days and continue on. Sometimes that can lead to frustration, wasted money on ruined material, or, worst of all an accident. I think the best safety tip I can add to continue this tread is about safety guards. Sure, the safety guard on a scrollsaw is nothing more than a nuisance (the hold down foot) and I don't know of anybody that leaves it there. The splitter and the plastic guard over a table saw blade are completely different stories. Removing those so you can get a better view of the blade as it enters the work piece is just asking for some of the worst injuries you can imagine from a small work shop. God Bless! Puzzleguy Posted April 11, 2020 Author Report Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) Maybe re-read a safety manual , and keep your fingers away from the bigger stuff Like tablesaws -manuals of safety are on the net . Im kinda annal on safety I have like 2-3 different push sticks , and some other safe stuff like a hold down and a special crosscutting jig - etc. Just don't want to hear about any of my Scroll saw family here getting hurt - God bless !
