John B Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) Well, that was a rough night and a not to smooth day. Had a bugger of a storm last night all along the West coast and inland to the Goldfields. Winds of up to 120kmh. We lost power in Kalgoorlie from 1120 last night until 10am this morning. No hot shower and no coffee before work Apparently a shed was blown into a power substation and Ka-Boom Had a busy morning at the school (work), no damage but lots of leaves, branches and accumulated rubbish along with a few bins blown about. Should finish the clean up tomorrow. No damage at home, except to Elizabeth's nerves, she hates the wind. Take care all and stay safe Some pics and an articlehttps://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-05-25/massive-storm-hits-perth-as-ex-tropical-cyclone-mangga-strikes/12281886 Edited May 26, 2020 by John B grammer RabidAlien 1 Quote

wombatie Posted May 26, 2020 Report Posted May 26, 2020 I'm like your wife John, I hate the wind but that's because we have neighbours with gum trees on either side of us, if either of them go we are cactus. Glad you are all safe and sound. Marg John B 1 Quote

It used to worry me when we had strong winds but according to Hoyle, the roots go so far down it would be take a lot to down it. Just keep paying the insurance. wombatie and Wilson142 2 Quote

I went through Hurricane Charley some years back, and even inland, I saw a lot of palms on their sides. Now, different species have different root systems, but the sand in Florida gets really soupy with enough water. John B 1 Quote
