OzarkSawdust Posted June 21, 2020 Report Posted June 21, 2020 I'm trying to design a business card holder similar to the scroll saw artist Steve Good pattern. I've got most of it in Inkscape, but need a lawnmower. I found this on the web somewhere...but when I copy/paste it has a dotted box around it that blocks out the rest of the design. How can I avoid that? Need a garden tractor like this...that I can change size to fit. The idea is to set the tractor on top of the wrench and put "The Rustic Wrench" across the top. Quote
jollyred Posted June 22, 2020 Report Posted June 22, 2020 When I pasted the photo into Inkscape, I had no problem tracing it using the trace bitmap function. Did you remember to turn off the fill and turn on the stroke? And move the traced drawing off the photo? Tom OzarkSawdust 1 Quote

Looks like I need to learn something new. amazingkevin 1 Quote

When you bring in a raster image into Inkscape, you can get the program to draw an outline of the image, using the trace bitmap function. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it doesn't. How it works is once the image is in your drawing, select it and under the "path" menu, there is a "trace bitmap". This pops up a window, where you just tell it to go ahead. Once the tracing is done, use the selection tool to move the raster image and the path apart. Once they are apart, you will want to set the stroke of the path and turn off the fill to see what you have. The raster image can be deleted out of the drawing and the vector will stay. If the trace does not work well, another method will need to be used, such as manually tracing the outline of the image. Tom Tomanydogs, OzarkSawdust and amazingkevin 1 2 Quote

It took me a few tries, but I got it onto my work. Now I have to go find the video Travis did on setting text on a curve. I saw it once but have never done it. I need to watch it again before I attempt it. I need to do more design work to get this down...not just once every 5-6 months...lol. amazingkevin 1 Quote

OzarkSawdust Posted August 2, 2020 Author Report Posted August 2, 2020 I forgot to post a photo of the completed card holder...sorry. I showed him a few scraps with different finishes, and he wanted Early American stain. It came out really nice! He really really liked it! Thanks a lot Jim and all of you that offered subjections!!
