stevan Posted September 11, 2020 Report Posted September 11, 2020 Anyone here built or builds Adirondack chairs? I have a “hankering” to maybe try my hand a one and I’m looking for a set of recommended plans to build from. Can they be built from cedar fence planks? Combination or 2x4 and fence planks? How about deck boards? What do you use and where is a good set of plans? I’ve done some Googling but there are a lot of plans out there. And as always thanks in advance. Quote
munzieb Posted September 11, 2020 Report Posted September 11, 2020 I ordered plans from Woodcraft several years ago and built 2 adjustable back chairs with foot rests. I made MDF templates so I could recreate them in the future. they are still holding up but I did add wheels since they are heavy and easier to move around. https://www.woodcraft.com/products/woodworking-project-paper-plan-to-build-adjustable-adirondack-chair amazingkevin, RabidAlien, Tomanydogs and 1 other 4 Quote

spirithorse Posted September 12, 2020 Report Posted September 12, 2020 There are supposed to be several free plans here. Hopefully you can find a good plan. Unfortunately, the first plan I opened to check to be sure they are free plans does not have a download/ You have to copy and print each page. Oh, well, still FREE! God Bless! new2woodwrk Posted September 12, 2020 Report Posted September 12, 2020 There are free plans all over for them. I am in the process of repairing a pair of chairs my neighbor gave me - going very slow until the weather cools. The ones given me are made from decking boards (arms, legs and side braces) and 2x4's (backing braces) and 1x2's (for the seat slats). One arm is broke on one and I've had to try and refashion it out of another decking board. The shaping is a real bear. The other had a seat slat missing. Easy fix. They are very sturdy Quote
Tomanydogs Posted September 12, 2020 Report Posted September 12, 2020 Another website to visit is Ana White. She has lots of free furniture plans, and I saw a few variations of the chair there too. RabidAlien 1 Quote
flarud Posted September 14, 2020 Report Posted September 14, 2020 I've made about a dozen over the last couple of years. I have 4 more on order, I have just been putting them off. I too made templates but from cardboard. Mine aren't a true Adirondack chair,, I make mine into rockers and I have them sit up higher. As we get older it gets harder to get up out of a true Adirondack. LOL RabidAlien and trackman 2 Quote
