Popular Post Sparkey Posted March 26, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted March 26, 2021 I made a segmented bowl. It is 13” in diameter and 5” tall. It is made with maple and walnut. Roq, crupiea, meflick and 7 others 9 1 Quote
preprius Posted March 27, 2021 Report Posted March 27, 2021 1) very nice looking 2) I can not figure out how you did it? 3) I can understand the boards going all the across, then rotated. 4) the curve of the bowl looks perfect. 4) the size is very large which makes it more useful and center of attention. Thanks. First you cut the segments. Since it was going to be a large bowl I wanted a lot of segments so they wouldn’t be too big. I went with 18 because that would make the cut angle 10 degrees, an easy number to set on the miter gage. To figure the size I took the diameter I wanted and multiplied by 3.14 (pi). Then divide by 18 and that gives you the length of the long side. Then you glue up the rings. After they dry they need to be sanded and glued into the rough bowl shape. After that is dry you just put it on the lathe and turn to your desired shape. Hopefully these pictures will help explain it a little better. Tomanydogs 1 Quote

Woodmaster1 Posted March 31, 2021 Report Posted March 31, 2021 Great job on the bowl. I use hose clamps for gluing segments together. I have accumulated an assortment of sizes for different diameter. You will have to try an open segment bowl sometime. Tomanydogs 1 Quote
