Xray Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 After losing much info multiple times over the years, I diversify. Most hard disks come with backup software. So in my computer I have an active disk that runs the OS and programs, and one that I use to back it up. That way, if my active disk dies, I can just reinstall that backup on a new disk, and not miss anything. Of course, this entails having a backup drive in your computer that is equal to or larger the active one. To keep down the size, I use an external drive to store movies, setup programs and whatnot, there are very large, but not used that often. Things that are very important, like pics, passwords, bookmarks ect, I also backup to DVD. That way, I am covered by multiple sources. Don't have to get obsessive, backing up once a month or every other month is fine. Quote
Travis Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Uggg...that sux. At least your patterns were saved. I'm a software collector too. It takes quite a bit to rebuild what I would lose. Good luck! Quote

Messman Posted July 15, 2011 Author Report Posted July 15, 2011 Well i got home awhile ago with my puter. I had them put a new hard drive in. I wanted a new puter but i can not afford one at this time. while i started replacing some of the software i looked on my external drive and saw that i had been smart some time in the past and had backed up my puter, so now i just have to figire out how to restore everything. I am Still no internet with it until i can find my access code for the router Quote
Messman Posted July 16, 2011 Author Report Posted July 16, 2011 Well I am having about as much luck restoring stuff from me external drive as getting blood from a rock that I dug up out of the ground. A couple of good things is that I managed to save my fav's, I am back on line, and I should be able to get my contact lists back once I get an e-mail program working. If anyone has any helpful tips for restoring stuff from my external drive I would be very greatful. Quote
