Travis Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I entered 3 beers into a competition at Montana Fair. I got 2nd (red ribbon) for my Brown Ale, 3rd (white ribbon) for my Cream Ale, and 3rd (white ribbon) for my American Wheat. I also got 2nd (red ribbon) for my Zuul Drool label (attached). I'm more interested in the comments the judges had, though. The beers were graded on the AHA (American Hombrewer's Association) standards. It'll be fun to see what someone with a trained palette has to say about them. This was the first time I entered anything into the fair. I missed the deadline to enter some of my scrollsaw projects, though. I'm going to put it on the calender for next year so I can enter other stuff too. It was a lot of fun to enter and see your stuff on display. Anybody else like to enter their stuff in their local/county fair? What have you entered in the past? How did you do? Quote
Oges Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Congrats on the ribbons Travis, and the label looks great I was only watching Ghostbusters the other day too Looks like there's a Ghostbusters 3 coming out next year too, that should be good. We have markets in our area, but not sure if we have anything like a fair .. I might check into that. We do have our Royal Easter Show in Sydney which has an Arts & Crafts competition but I havent check if they have a woodwork division for that, and there is the Sydney Working with Wood show each year too. They would attract a high calliber of work and high volume of entries I would believe. Quote
toolbeltman Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Congrats on the awards Travis...sounds like fun... Quote
wombatie Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Congratulations on the awards Travis. I guess beer is your second love. Marg Quote
Travis Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 Thanks! It was a fun experience. I do enjoy brewing beer (one of my many hobbies, I guess). I think what I like about it is that you have to commit to it. If your somebody needs you to do something, you can't stop in the middle. Its all or nothing. Scrolling/woodworking, if something needs to be done, you can set it aside and come back. At least with brewing, I get to do my thing for 4 hours uninterrupted. Plus a couple guys I work with also brew, so its fun to get together and compare notes. Quote
Ken O Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 Good job! I always think of it after it's too late in the year. One of the ladies at work always gets ribbons for pictures she puts in the fair. One of these days I'll get something in there. Quote
Clayton717 Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 congrats Travis. I have been wanting to enter some work in the fair but never seem to remember until the deadline has passed. Quote
