Popular Post Frank Pellow Posted December 27, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted December 27, 2021 These trees were a big hit in Canada in the late 1960s and I understand they are currently enjoying a comeback as collectables. My sister-in-law, Gail, made us one in 1970 and we have utilized it every year since then. Gale's Tree (as we call it) has followed us on all our moves from Canada to England to Canada to England to Canada to USA then, finally, to our retirement in Canada. Our daughter Kristel has collected several and will, eventually, give them to folks as gifts. I decided to design and make storage boxes for the trees and here are photos of my prototype: There was even a bit of scroll sawing involved to create the tree on the slide-out front panel. The tree pattern is from Steve Good. The wood for the box is all Baltic Birch plywood. There is a foam insert in the bottom to cushion the base. I will be making at least four more of these. new2woodwrk, TexasDIY, John B and 11 others 14 Quote
munzieb Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 Frank, great box. We have the same ceramic tree. I made a box for it too but on our last move I needed the wood. Now the tree resides on a shelf in the attic for 11.5 months and 2 weeks in the living room. John B and Frank Pellow 1 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted December 28, 2021 Report Posted December 28, 2021 Great idea. Wish I would have thought about that before our move 20 years ago. When we moved, great care was taken to put our "Marna tree" in a box that we moved and not the movers. When we went to put out the next year the top was smashed. No idea how but a box like this would have saved it. Nice memory. John B and Frank Pellow 1 1 Quote
spirithorse Posted January 11, 2022 Report Posted January 11, 2022 (edited) Very nice! Are you also going to put some styrofoam or something on the back and sides of the box? We also have that same type of ceramic tree! God Bless! Spirithorse Edited January 11, 2022 by spirithorse Punctuation Frank Pellow 1 Quote

No, I am just placing Styrofoam on the bottom of the bixes. Quote
Frank Pellow Posted January 16, 2022 Author Report Posted January 16, 2022 I have now made 5 boxes. Each one has a different scroll-sawn tree on the front. I obained patterns for the tree by asking for evergreen tree cllp art on the internet. Here is a photo: danny and John B 2 Quote
