Fantastic job, David. I've wanted to try something like this but don't have access to the various woods like many others on the forum... at least I haven't found a retailer in my area. And I actually work for a company that has a lumber yard.

Prepius: Thank you, but I am still learning this art.  It looks better in the photograph! After a year, I can pretty much cut to the center of the pattern line.

Dakota: I do cheat a little.  I have lots of curly maple which I dye to various colors.  More like segmentation than intarsia.  The Austin wood stores have been pretty good for specialized wood, except for aspen.  I can't find that white wood anywhere, so curly maple to the rescue.  Cypress makes a good substitute for red cedar and is easier to cut straight.  If anyone is in the Austin area, I have lots of cutoffs of curly maple, mahogany and walnut.

Thanks for looking.

I’m betting it’s Austin Texas, but hoping for Austin MN. Curly maple is a joy to work with.
