savethebeer Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 For over 5 years my shop kept getting bigger and bigger but not by moving the walls or anything practical like that. Me who lives alone, Just kept expanding my shop by keeping lots of wood, and finished pieces in the living room, sitting on the small armchair or leaning against the back of the sofa. The problem with that is the books that sat on the armchair had to be moved to the floor, whilst the household files which sat on the floor had to sit on the dining table. For several years I have been annoyed at this situation, and even more annoyed at myself for continually saying áh it'll be fine', because the alternative was to turn off the saw and tidy up. I mean who wants to do that. Two days ago, whilst talking to my sister in Canada, she announced that she is coming over in Sept to visit all our relatives, and she'll drop in to see me for a day or two. The Eureka moment. I need to de-clutter, I need a clean tidy house to show off to my sister, and this is the pressure I needed to walk away from the fifth dwarf I'm working on, ( Snow White and 4 dwarves done so far) . Two evenings in so far and I've a full wheelie bin for Bin day, many of the things in that wheelie bin were bits that I saved and put away cause I knew I would need it years later, only to acknowledge today that actually I will never need in my lifetime. I've discovered a spring (in my own workshop) that I've been looking out for everywhere I went, so that I can make a pinball machine out of the very large box that my new telly came in 2 years ago. I might get it done for (this) Christmas for my granddaughters. 2/3rd of the shop done so far and some items moved from the living room into the shop so I can see the progress. I have now rewarded myself with a beer(s) John B, ChelCass, Wilson142 and 4 others 6 1 Quote

oldhudson Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 I'm sure this will be an inspiration to many. I don't have this problem because my sweetie is a fan of "Swedish death cleaning" . Look it up. OCtoolguy and ChelCass 2 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 I have the opposite problem. My wife inherited a "clean gene" from someone in her family. Nothing can sit for more than a few seconds before it disappears. I keep telling her that I'm not finished with whatever just disappeared. She tells me that it was just sitting there so she put it away. It drives me nuts. Our home could pass for an operating theater at any time of the day or night. Nothing is ever out of place. EVER!
