Tallbald Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 (edited) Sturdy tool stands can always find a use with saws, sanders and other mountable tools. But I cannot figure what dimensions to make a stand top that would fit a typical Jet or Pegas style scroll saw. Anyone have a link to please or could measure their own saw and post the information? Also the height of the saw's table top to bench top so stand legs could be cut to correct length? Could be I just don't know well how to search for the information. I'd enjoy the positive affirmation of having a stand ready and available should my plans for an upgrade come to pass. But in either case I'd have a nice stand for a future tool. Thanks. Don I'm not sure what the mounting feet / pads distances are on the saws.. Maybe in a manual for one of the saws they would have the footprint? As for the height of the stands.. the factory stands have adjustable legs for different settings.. as some folks stand when scrolling while others sit. Many of us "tilt" the stand lower in the front so they are on a slight angle.. IF I can remember next time I go out to the shop I'll try to get some measurements.. but maybe someone else has that info already. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Pompeio Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 I purchased a used Pegas 21 last week and am designing a stand for it at this time. The approximate dimensions of the saw are as follows: table is ~13.5” wide and 23.5” deep the bottom (the portion that gets attached to your top) is ~ 15” wide and 17” deep the entire saw is ~32” deep the top side of the table is 8” from your table top. I hope this helps and let me know if you need additional (or more exact dimensions). OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Tallbald Posted November 14, 2022 Author Report Posted November 14, 2022 Ahh thank you both! The width is wider than I expected. It appears that a top that 18 inches wide and 20 inches long (deep) would be sufficient. I'll be making the stand similar to the stand for our little Wen, which my beloved wife penny asked that we keep even when upgrading. The one I made has a hinged riser which locks into the top in both the risen and lowered position with lathe-turned 3/8 inch steel pins. Very solid and has four wheel locking swivel casters for our small shop. Doesn't look like though that the additional version can be as tapered back to front. I can happily say that this pictured stand was made from all scrap dumpster and salvaged wood, salvaged casters and hinges. Only cost to us was the wood screws and wood glue so the price was good Thank you again. This is something I can do sooner rather than later. Sometimes things are like that. Pompeio Posted November 14, 2022 Report Posted November 14, 2022 I went into my shop and got some better measurements of the Pegas for you. the Pegas base is 16.5” deep and 15” wide the Pegas top is 23.5” deep and 13.625” wide at its largest dimensions the top is 8” higher than the bottom of the base the entire saw has a depth of 32.125” and a max height of 17.5” OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Tallbald Posted November 14, 2022 Author Report Posted November 14, 2022 Thank you so much for your time. Excellent and critical information to have. Now to sort lumber on hand. Don OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Don The important thing here is that each person has different body dimensions so that affects how/where you mount your saw. I'm 6'1" and sit down low in an office chair. I don't like to stand at a saw but for my Hegner, I have a tall shop chair and a foot stool for the switch. Everything is a trial & error thing until you find what works for you. I guarantee you that none of us here have the same setup. Just find a good comfortable chair or seat first and then design around that. I can give you all the dimensions of my 2 Ex's and the size of the stands I built but I'm not sure how much that will help you. Other than the pattern for the bolt holes of the saw bases. One is a 16" and the other is 21" so they are different also. PM me if you want more info. Quote
Pompeio Posted November 14, 2022 Report Posted November 14, 2022 Don: FYI that the saw’s table top is 8” above the surface of the top you are setting it on. There are leveling screws/spacers that take up ~ 1” (of the 8” mentioned above). You may want to subtract this 1” if you are going to use these four holes to mount the saw directly to your stand’s surface without the spacers. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
