rafairchild2 Posted June 17, 2023 Report Posted June 17, 2023 (edited) Slowly getting pieces cut out, I love the yellow heart for the sun, I actually made it larger than the pattern. I am also going to stagger my leaves, rather than having it as a single thick pieces, so I did 1/2 the thickness and then looking to stagger. Still need to start my fine fitting and then shaping. Right now, I am also trying to find the right wood for the water. I am trying to find blue pine, beetle-killed pine, or something else. Otherwise, I was thinking of going something grey and switching the sky to a canary wood, which I was thinking of for the frame originally. Side note: The wood that is supposed to be white will be pickled white with old masters gel finish. Edited June 17, 2023 by rafairchild2 barb.j.enders, jollyred, MarieC and 3 others 6 Quote

She has since redesigned it slightly. But I also did my own take adjusting the design by adding some layers to the palm leaves and making the sun larger. I decided to stain the water and sky. Right now I am in the "fine fitting" stage, making sure all my pieces fit tight. The water actually came out on the first cut, right and tight, no need for fitting. The new piece between the water and sky, I just cut this am, and now fitting it. I will hopefully start shaping tomorrow a bit, then I need to cut out the crab that will sit on the frame (still need to make that out of canary wood), then "pickle" white finish the crab and the waves and clouds. , And of course, gluing it all up. I am taking my time, just a little at a time. Edited June 24, 2023 by rafairchild2 Gene Howe, barb.j.enders and Scrappile 3 Quote
