Sycamore67 Posted September 15, 2023 Report Posted September 15, 2023 This will likely be my last post about Monarchs as I have likely bored people. The fall migration is going on and people could be lucky to see a bunch of Monarchs settle in trees for the night. I was fortunate to see several years ago about 30 Monarchs settle into Pine trees one night in early fall. It was awe inspiring. We are busy now releasing Monarchs as 5 of the 24 have emerged from their chrysalis. We have had 2 males and 3 females. The rest well be emerging soon. This is the male we released tonight. You can tell by the black dot on the wing toward the back on either side of the abdomen. I also learned something new about the chrysalis. The gold colored spots are where the chrysalis gets oxygen. meflick and JackJones 2 Quote

Scrappile Posted September 15, 2023 Report Posted September 15, 2023 (edited) WOW! wouldn't that be something to see. Pretty sure and hope, the area must be well protected for the public. And do not stop, I love this stuff! Edited September 15, 2023 by Scrappile Quote
Sycamore67 Posted September 17, 2023 Author Report Posted September 17, 2023 Just an update as it had been busy. We have released 10 females and 3 males. It is a great feeling to see them fly away. We have 10 more to go. Dan, JackJones, Scrappile and 2 others 5 Quote
meflick Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 I agree, please keep us informed and updated. I enjoy seeing your pictures and learning more about them. My mother loved butterflies, especially the monarches. Whenever we see one, it reminds me of my mom. JackJones 1 Quote
