Popular Post munzieb Posted November 14, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted November 14, 2023 When we bought our house, the builder left a lot of 8' sections of window trim molding in the actic. I have used some in the past for various projects. I decided to make an 8 sided (octogon) box. The height was 3.5" and I cut the width the same with my mitre saw at 22.5 degrees. I had routered a 1/4 groove on the inside of the bottom of the whole piece before cutting the individual pieces. I made a base and glued and strap clamped it all together. Since wood was pine and finger joint connected, I decided to paint it all black lacquer. The top was also pine and I routered a recess on the bottom to fit into the base. I added some trim pieces to the top to give it a nicer contour. Added felt to inside of base and bottom of top. When my wife's foot gets better and is able to get up to her studio over the garage, she'll add some of her wonder painting to the top. meflick, jollyred, GrampaJim and 7 others 10 Quote
meflick Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 Beautiful piece as always. I hope your wife's foot heals soon so she can add her special touch to your box. You guys always do awesome work together. munzieb 1 Quote
munzieb Posted November 15, 2023 Author Report Posted November 15, 2023 It's been almost a month since she broke 3 metatarsal bones in her left foot. (tripped on the deck) Healing can take from 6 to 8 weeks. She wants to do more but healing goes slow. I had thought of doing some scroll pattern on the side panels but that would take away from her area to paint. Quote
meflick Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 I understand the long healing process, especially in the feet recently. My husband broke both of his heels on Oct. 1. Doctor said he smashed one, and really smashed the other. Both heels had to be rebuilt. Surgery was delayed when he got pneumonia. We are now 4 weeks out from his surgeries. He is non-weight bearing for at least 3 months and thus in a wheelchair since it occurred. He is doing well all things considered. I pray that she and he both heal well. munzieb 1 Quote
munzieb Posted November 17, 2023 Author Report Posted November 17, 2023 Thank you for your kind thoughts. My wife is getting better. She is 4 weeks in from her accident and will need at least another 4 weeks until its better. She broke left metatarsal 3-5 but no compound fracture. She is starting to to put some weight on it. She has become very nimble on her rolling walker and tries to do more than she should. Your husband's injury sounds a whole more complicated and pneumonia is a scary thing. I had it it back on 9/11 and almost had to go into the hospital. Had the shot shortly after that. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery. meflick 1 Quote
TAIrving Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 My prayers are with both of you for a full and speedy recovery. I have experienced both conditions over the years, pneumonia and broken foot bone (stress fracture in my left foot, second metatarsal). Both are difficult. I now have had the pneumonia immunizations and recommend it to all. meflick and munzieb 1 1 Quote
